NASA Improved By More ISS Funding?

The chairman of the U.S. House science committee said yesterday that NASA is headed for "a train wreck" if the space agency isn't better funded to finish building the international space station and develop the next-generation spacecraft...The White House has cut NASA's five-year budget plan by almost $2.26 billion in the three years since President Bush announced the "Vision for Space Exploration" plan to develop new spacecraft to go back to the moon and then to Mars, said Rep. Bart Gordon, a democrat from Tennessee....NASA Said to be Headed for 'Train Wreck,' Mike Schneider, AP to NY Sun, 3/16/2007

Always trust a Democrat to throw more money at a losing project. For anyone who's followed the International Space Station, that government-sponsored housing project in the sky, you know that ISS has swallowed up NASA's science budget, diverted most shuttle missions, and offered more political showtime than scientific results. The best thing that happened to NASA in the last six years was the Bush Administration orders to re-direct their mission away from ISS and toward a return to a serious plan for human exploration of the solar system, especially the moon and Mars. But Democrats know a good housing project when they see one. It's where the constituents' sense of well-being matters more than the results.
