No Ethiopian Blackhawks Down

Christian-majority Ethiopia had had enough of Somali-backed Islamist subversion among its Muslim minority. Despite its serious internal flaws, the government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi did civilization a great favor by ignoring diplomatic table manners and confronting the Islamists in Mogadishu...."Terror's Surprise Loss", Ralph Peters, NY Post, 1/5.2007, cited on Front Page Magazine

When ex-President Clinton sent troops to Somalia, one imagines that the earth trembled slightly. After all, the great America was coming. All would be well. Of course it was a disaster enabled by a master of gesture over substance. A President who once had Air Force One make an unscheduled stop so he could have his bouffant refreshed by a leading Hollywood hairdresser had played with his helicopter and soldier toys, had seen real blood shed, and ran away from the playground. The disaster was hugely celebrated by Hollywood, as one would expect in Streisandland. Not much remarked upon these past few weeks, Ethiopia sent few helicopters but a lot of crack troops into Somalia. They didn't stop at the first ill-treatment of a soldier's body by a Somali gangster. They didn't stop at every threat noted by MSM. They just did what crack troops do; they knocked over the enemy, seized the high ground, and chased the survivors out of the country. One imagines amazement in certain capitals, including The NY Times and Riyadh. A real power had taken action against gangbangers much loved by a certain class of reporters and a certain group of princes in Saudi Arabia. Way to go, Ethiopia!
