It Won't Help, Ann. Foley's Sunk the GOP in Congress

At least liberals are finally exhibiting a moral compass about something. I am sure that they'd be equally outraged if Rep. Mark Foley were a Democrat...The object lesson of Foley's inappropriate e-mails to male pages is that when a Republican congressman is caught in a sex scandal, he immediately resigns and crawls off into a hole in abject embarrassment. Democrats get snippy....Who Knew Foley was a Closeted Democrat, Ann Coulter, Townhall.com, 10/5/2006

In the general state of hypocrisy in Washington, it doesn't matter that Democrats have always gotten off Scot-free in sexual scandals. The last President of the United States to wear the Democrat's jackass as a party label was an accused rapist, a known sexual harasser while serving as President, and a two-timing husband who used the Air Force to distract Congress and the media from impeachment hearings. Nothing happened to him. Representative Drinnon's pecadillos yielded nothing. Trouble is, Ann, that Foley was a secular politician passing himself off as a priest. Nobody was ever fooled by Bill Clinton or by Representative Drinnon. All Clinton did was act like a pig and lie, activities he'd been carrying on for decades. All Drinnon did was act on his impulses. Foley, however, is a special monster for Americans, a moralist who's immoral, a Joan of Arc who turned out to be a slut. He's also going to destroy the GOP's chances to keep the House and probably the Senate. In Roman times, nobody would have much minded if he had been cut to pieces and left for dog food in the Forum.

It's clear to anyone on the right that the present GOP's leadership is not representative of anything we stand for. It's time for a change. If we lose both Houses for a couple of years, it would rid of us of a lot of bad apples, Republicans passing for liberals and libertines passing for moralistes. Then maybe Newt or Rudy can lead a revivified GOP, i.e., one devoted to republican ideals, back to power.
