Pope vs. Islamofascists: Score One for Benedict

My first "catch-up" entry involves the Pope's recent (and ongoing) brouhaha with the Islamofascists.

In a speech, the scholarly Pope Benedict XVI cites and obscure medieval reference to a senior clergyman who notes that adherents of Islam seem to be more than usually violent when people disagree with them.

Result: Islamofascists violently demonstrate around the clock, raising a ruckus, offing a nun, and more recently beheading an Orthodox priest in Iraq. A priest who, to anyone who knows anything about Christianity, has no allegiance to the Pope whatever.

Comment: Guess this proves that Islam is a Religion of Peace and never resorts to violence. Fallout: The Vatican has "apologized" several times. But read the apology. The Vatican is "sorry" that so much violence has happened as a result of the Pope's remarks. Which has nothing to do with retracting them. Folks these days are so jaded with the antics of the academic left that they fail to perceive the palpable intellectual superiority of this particular theologian who has his argument precisely right and who planned his remarks (although not the extent of the violent extremism) well in advance. Game, set, and match to Benedict.

Fear:
If Benedict persists in heading for Turkey as scheduled, he'd better take along a phananx of U.S. Army Rangers. Ask the assailant who attacked his predecessor, John Paul II. Agca has already warned him. Stay tuned.
