Beneath their sunny expressions of unity, there's a potentially disruptive volcano simmering for speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi's House Democrats....Pelosi must corral 3 Dem factions to unite on agenda, San Francisco Chronicle, 11/17/2006
In a previous post, this writer suggested that Speaker Pelosi might find herself more in a minority as Speaker of the House than she was as a member of the formerly minority House Democrats. The article, in a newspaper that slobbers all over the California U.S. Representative and Speaker, can't conceal the obvious truth. The Speaker, imagining herself as the leading advocate for a radical agenda of peace at any price and taxes more taxes, got thoroughly whomped in the selection of Majority Leader. In Washington, if you can't get the votes, you're a figurehead. This is a lesson that Speaker-to-be Pelosi may take a while to learn, but she will learn it.
